IN the 1960's and 70's Fourie worked extensively in England with artists and groups including the Ray Ellington Quartet (1963 -64),Tubby Hayes, Jack Parnell (television dates, 1965-67) and Johnny Hawksworth. He also led various trios between 1965 and 67. Record dates during this period include collaborations with Roger Webb on the album "John Paul and all that Jazz" and Charles Earland on the album "Intensity" (1972) which features Lee Morgan, Hubert Laws and Billy Cobham. Since 1974, Fourie has performed extensively throughout South Africa with artists like pianist Hennie Bekker and guitarists Allan Kwela and Joe Moretti.

Other appearances include collaborations with electric bassist Carlo Mombelli and tenor saxophonist Duke Makasi (as members of the group Abstractions), Groove Holmes during his country-wide tour in the early 1980's and Bob Mintzer during the 1994 Johannesburg Arts Alive Festival.

In the late 1980's, Fourie also made several radio recordings with Mike Gibbs and Peanuts Hucko. Since 1993, he has been lecturing guitar at the Pretoria Technikon and has co-lead the quintet Short Attention Span along with his son, Sean (a pianist) and British tenor saxophonist Dave O Higgins. Fourie has also done extensive studio and show work throughout his career.
