GLORIA Bosman, was born in Mofolo, but was raised in Pimville, Soweto. At no time did she consider that life would take her on a journey that would include stage and performing on as a professional performer.
In much the same way as most of her American contemporaries, she began her career singing in a church Choir.
Her first taste of the professional world came after she was approached by Felicia Marion of Joy fame to fill in for one of the singers in a production called SA Love at the Market Theatre in 1993. After this production, she was awarded a scholarship by both Nedbank and the Permanent Bank, which enabled her to study opera at the Technikon Pretoria.
From these early beginnings Gloria has amassed an impressive biography having performed and sung with the cream of South African musicians. Her stage career includes performances on various acts such as: SA Love, a musical of South African love songs produced by Christo Leach, Jubilation a gospel based musical directed by Ivor Jones, Woman in Spirit, The Lion and the Lamb, the award winning play by actor director John Kani.

Gloria has by no means limited herself the life of acting and stage, performing live at numerous clubs throughout the country as the leading lady for such festivals as Arts Alive (1995 / 1997), the Joy of Jazz Festival in Pretoria (1997 / 1998), the 1998 Women’s Arts Festival in Durban Playhouse and the Grahamstown Festival (1998). Jonas Gwangwa gave her the opportunity to tour overseas when she shared the stage with this jazz great on his tour of France and Noumea
She had the honor of singing for both out going and incoming presidents when she sang for Thabo Mbeki at his Christmas Dinner and for Nelson Mandela at his 80th birthday celebrations at Gallagher Estates Midrand.
Gloria has sung with a myriad artists all of whom represent the African Jazz Renaissance, of which she is a huge part. She has shared the stage with the likes of Sibongile Khumalo, Moses Molelekwa, Tananas, Sipho Mabuse, Vusi Mahlasela, James Philips, Victor Masondo and Hugh Masekela to name only a few.
Her ability has been emphasized over and over again, her renditions of Nkosi (The Healing Song), Handels Messiah with the Roodepoort Ochestra, the Living Arts Concert for S.A.B.C.
Balancing a life of stage and clubs she has also managed to play at a variety of corporate functions in such prestigious venues as the Hilton and Theatre on Track, the IEC celebration dinner at the Park Hyatt, as well as awards ceremonies namely: Women in Film, Artes Radio Awards, M-net Awards and the Avanti. Gloria has also found time for teaching at The Market Theatre Laboratory and presenting on etv for their jazz show, Jazz Indaba.
Many have wondered why it has taken so long for Gloria Bosman to get her name onto her own album. The road she has traveled is as long as that endured by most musicians, but her debut album ‘Tranquility' represents a coming of age for one of jazz’s most lovely daughters. The album was recorded at M2 at the S.A.B.C. It was produced and arranged by pianist Paul Hanmer who along with Gloria, was partly responsible for the compositions. McCoy Mrubata was also responsible for some compositions on ‘Tranquility'
