Freshlyground bass player and singer Josh Hawks has teamed up with long
time Johnny Clegg Band drummer Barry Van Zyl to form an exciting new act.
Together with guitarists Chris Bakalanga from Kinshasa, and Capetonian stalwart James Kibby they make up
the Josh Hawks Band, established 2013.

The style and focus runs from Pan African world beats right through to Punk,
Rock and classic ‘Beatles rock and roll’.
Bakalanga's Congolese guitar lines harmonise and interplay with the melodies of Kibby, a perfomer and teacher first known to Cape Town and international audiences through his work with Sabenza, the project of the late Cape Jazz icon, Basil manenberg Coetzee.
Josh and Barry have spent more than a decade performing at the highest
international level, around the globe on a yearly basis. The Josh Hawks Band is the culmination of this pedigree, packaged in the
form of a vibrant and proudly South African quartet!
