THE Abaqondisi Brothers ("Brothers of Understanding") are a 12 member acapella group from Kaya Mandi Township in Stellenbosch, near Cape Town, who splendidly showcase South African voicing.
The Iscathamiya or Cothoza Mfana multipart singing of which they are such fine proponents, is the music popularized by migrant workers in South Africa, the music of men surviving in an urban world, yet longing for the space and tranquility of rural roots and distant families.

While comparisons with the famous Ladysmith Black Mambazo are invevitable, Abaqondisi have forged unique harmony structures in various languages and styles that include Isicathamiya, Gospel, Traditional, IsiXhosa, English, isiZulu, SeSotho & Afrikaans. They have built a solid following through their live performances and recordings.
Abaqondisis CD releases over the past six years are Ezulwini Lami, Umtheth?Uyavuma, Isifingo and the latest iLizwe Lesithembiso (The Promised Land).
Other than regular performances performances country-wide, the group have performed at a host of special events ranging from President Mandelas 80th Birthday Concert, to performance at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Their magical harmonies enthuse all audiences, and the group appear frequently at an array of private and corporate functions, church services, and festivals.
