Prophets Of Da City (P.O.C.) (South Africa)
The Prophets with Quincy Jones

What is there to say about PROPHETS OF DA CITY? Well too much really and where would one begin...

After their first release OUR WORLD The Prophets hit the road, so to speak, and never looked back. Album after album, tour after tour, local and international acclaim and recognition saw them become South Africa's first genuine popular music export and definitely the most successful and recognised Rap / Hip Hop outfit this country has ever produced.

Genre: hip hop, rap
They toured against Drugs, played Nelson Mandela's Inaugaration, performed alongside James Brown, The Fugees, Public Enemy, Quincy Jones and countless others. They were also the first South African group to receive the coveted SINGLE OF THE WEEK in the NEW MUSICAL EXPRESS (NME) and were chosen later that year to appear on the SINGLES OF THE YEAR compilation. While in London in 1997 they recorded with AFRIKA BAAMBAATA and in the same year featured on SPEARHEAD’S album “CHOCOLATE SUPERHIGHWAY" Another milestone came when their video for the track ”UNDERSTAND WHERE I’M COMING FROM" won the BEST AFRICAN VIDEO for 1997at the MIDEM/CANNES award.

In between touring and recording they began working with various groups including Skeem, D’low, BVK and Mr Devious. Now (un)officially defunct as POC you can still catch individual members like RAMONE, READY D, ISHMAEL and the others setting the scene alight with a variety of new projects.

In the case of POC we let the record (and the records) speak for itself...
